How to make a 5-paragraph essay? - easy directions from seniors
It was once said that the pen can be mightier than the sword, but just having a pen is not enough to make someone into an effective writer. In fact, inspiration alone is not the only thing you require to write an effective essay or do my biology homework. Conventions of essays are in many regards formulaic and making sure that you include the right parts might be all that you need. Most basic essays for high school and college alike follow the standard five paragraph structure for writing. This means you have:
- An introduction
- Body paragraph 1
- Body paragraph 2
- Body paragraph 3
- A conclusion
This can come off as formulaic, and it is in essence. But the idea behind such structure is to make it easier for your reader to navigate the ideas you are creating in an efficient manner. Your essay needs to have the same structure as other essays so that the reader can easily find the information that is the most relevant.
The introduction
The key purpose to the introduction is to present the position that you are taking on your issue. This introduction is also referred to as the main argument or the thesis. Having an effective introductory paragraph requires much more than simply presenting your position.
The body paragraphs
The middle section of your essay is collectively referred to as the body paragraphs. The main purpose of the body paragraph is to provide in detail the examples that you have to support your thesis statement. For the first of your three body paragraphs you should present your strongest argument or present the most significant example you have unless there is a more obvious explanation or starting point required, such as chronological explanations. The first sentence of your paragraphs is what professional surfer to as the topic sentence.
This is the sentence which relates directly to the examples that were listed in the miniature outline provided with your introductory paragraph.
Make sure that you avoid being too general. When you provide examples to support your thesis you want them to be specific and effective. You need to clearly explain details that you provide. It might be difficult for you to summarize the richness of the example that you have given to the reader especially when you're limited to a handful of lines. That being said, it is imperative that you make each line count. If you want to explain why you think George Washington is the perfect example of a strong leader, you should perhaps skip over stories such as his adventure with a cherry tree as a child. This might be a good story but it is not relevant to his leadership.
The conclusion
The conclusion paragraph might be the final paragraph in your essay but it should not be considered an afterthought. This final paragraph is your last chance to make a strong case for your thesis. That being said the conclusion needs to follow rigid formatting. Think of your conclusion as a second introduction. This might seem paradoxical but your conclusion does contain many of the same facts and features that your introduction contained. The conclusion does not have to be incredibly long. You can have for sentences, much the same as your introduction and still have an effective inclusion.
Effective conclusions will begin with a concluding transition such as in the end, or in conclusion. They should also include an allusion to the hook that you utilized in your introduction. Once you have done that you need to provide a restatement of the thesis immediately.
At this point when you restate your thesis should be the fourth or fifth time that you have restated it so make sure that you use varied word choice and some original language.
